Tucker Hockey Selects Team Canada Roster

for the 2022 Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics Hockey Tournament is scheduled for Wednesday February 9th to Sunday February 20th, 2022.

So much can happen between now and February 2022. Injuries, scoring slumps to name a couple and yes, even our nemesis – Covid!

Gary Bettman, Commissioner of the NHL has said with regards to going. “It’s the player’s decision unless we jointly agree with the NHLPA to the contrary”. The International Olympic Committee says that any confirmed positive Covid case at the Olympic Games must produce 2 negative tests 24 hours apart. Otherwise, the quarantine period can last from three weeks up to five weeks in accordance with Chinese law. This could be problematic for NHL players next February. Not sure if these protocols remain the same, how many more players like Swedish goalie Robin Lehner will take a pass on the tourney? A call involving the IOC/IIHF/NHL/NHLPA medical personnel is expected soon to review these matters. The deadline is Monday, January 10th, 2022 for the NHL / NHLPA to go or withdraw from the Winter Olympic games.

Nevertheless, most of the top NHL players have been very keen to go and plan to peak their performance this season to be selected and play in this prestigious “best on best” hockey tournament. Time will tell in the next few weeks.

We have enough depth in Canada to ice two medal contending teams! It’s a very challenging task for the Hockey Canada management team lead by Doug Armstrong and the coaching staff lead by Jon Cooper to select the right mix of NHL players to represent Team Canada in Beijing, China. The announcement of the roster is scheduled for sometime in January 2022. Good luck gentlemen with the many difficult decisions ahead!

We live in a very passionate country when it comes to hockey. Everyone has an opinion; everyone will give their two cents worth from now and even until long after the completion of the Olympics. Did we pick the right team?
