Summer 2022 Adult Hockey

Bradley Mersereau Memorial Award Recipient:

Mitch Preuss

Published: October 6, 2022

This award is named the “Brad Memorial”. It is in memory of Bradley Mersereau, who was an avid participant in Tucker Hockey Adult Programs. Brad never represented himself as a great skater, or, for that matter, a good hockey player. He just loved getting out and being active. He always found a healthy balance between family, work and the enjoyment of hockey. He was a “true friend” and “hockey enthusiast”.

Here is a little bit about Mitch:

  • What do you like about the sport of hockey?

Hockey is one of the most incredible sports where there is nothing you can’t love about it!  Something that’s always drawn me to hockey is the passion and desire to win – not because people like to win, but because they hate to lose. When you’re out there on the ice, you take your mess ups personal and you win as a team.  It’s the sport that truly brings people together.

Where I truly started to love hockey was when I started attending quite a few Flames games.  While I’m used to being disappointed in the playoffs, the amount of positive energy you can feel standing side by side with other fans is incredible.  The wonderful part about this is that it carries through no matter where you’re watching! I had the pleasure of being able to attend a playoff game down in Dallas this past season and it was like a kid in a candy shop seeing and feeling the energy of everyone ready to see a good hockey game!

  • When and how did you initially get involved with Tucker Hockey?

Initially I got involved with Tucker Hockey because I really wanted to learn how to skate better initially and then really work on some tactical and stick handling skills.  I had a friend recommend the program who had gone through it before and so I took the chance and signed up for both the beginner class and then the class that followed.  It was an incredible experience and even used the teachings to pocket a goal this evening!

  • How has hockey influenced or positively affected your life?

Hockey over the past couple of years has been my outlet and place where I’m able to self care.  I started learning to play during the pandemic (in 2020) and everything got shut down just as I started learning but the second we were allowed to play – I was out there.  It’s given me a great place to meet new people, exercise and play a game where you know that the teammate behind you will go to the boards for you.

Editor’s Note:

Yes, hockey is an incredible sport for all ages. Glad you enjoyed participating in our Tucker Hockey technical skills programs! Mitch, you are very coachable, have an attentive nature, desire to get better and attempt new things. These great traits combined with continuing to work on the fundamentals of the game, especially skating, and you will enjoy the sport even more! Best wishes with your playing and enjoyment. See you at the rink again!

Take care
