Spring 2022 Minor Hockey

Danny Cammack Memorial Award Recipient:

Kingston Dery

Published June 16, 2022

This award was created in memory of Danny Cammack.

Danny Cammack had many of the passions of a typical 13-year-old, but none was greater than hockey. What Danny lacked in size, he more than made up for with smooth powerful strides, soft hands and an uncanny puck sense.

As much as he loved the game, he loved the camaraderie that came with being a member of a hockey team. Perhaps this is why he was such a good team player. Dan loved to win but it was not the “Be all, end all”. He always kept things in perspective. Doing his best and having fun on the ice was what Danny was all about!

Since 2004, this Tucker Hockey Award has been issued quarterly each year to worthy program participants.

Coach Rex selected Kingston Dery as the Spring 2022 Minor Hockey – Danny Cammack Memorial Award Recipient. Congratulations Kingston!

About Kingston:

  • Tell us a little about yourself.

I am 13 years old and have played hockey for 6 years. I love all sports, but hockey is what I am most passionate about. I recently had a hockey injury causing a break in my Fibula and Tibia that had me in a full leg cast for 3 months causing me to miss most of the hockey season this year. This helped motivate me even more to work hard to recover and gain back my strength. Luckily, I was able to return and be placed on a team in February. I am happy to be back in full force now!

  • What do you like about the sport of hockey?

I love the teamwork with hockey and having to work hard for your goals. I also like the friends you make throughout hockey and the common love of the sport.

  • When and how did you initially get involved with Tucker Hockey?

My parents saw a poster in the rink and asked around and read reviews and saw a lot of really positive feedback regarding their programs. I tried one week and loved it and then signed up for 6 weeks every summer since. Someday I hope to be able to help demonstrate and coach with them in the future!

  • What has been the most enjoyable part of the Tucker Hockey experience for you?

They make me feel welcome and push you to your full capacity and more! Their programs have been fun, but also have helped me improve to become a successfully hockey player.

  • How has hockey influenced or positively affected your life?

It has given me confidence in my abilities on the ice and off. It is a fun sport and given me long time friends as well as great coaches. It was hard being in a cast for so long, and the friends, coaches and mentors through hockey made me feel important and valued.

Editor’s Note:

Kingston, it’s great to know that you have fully recovered after your bad hockey injury! You are a very dedicated and resilient person.

We appreciate your loyalty to our Tucker Hockey programs. 6 weeks in the Summer is very impressive! Look forward to seeing you on the ice again this Summer for some fun times and to continue to develop your skills! You have a great attitude and are very coachable. Take Care!
