March 24, 2021: Update on Spring Minor 3 on 3 Programs

On Monday March 22, 2021 the Alberta Government announced that we will be staying in Step 2 for a longer period than was initially expected.

Due to an increase in variant cases and an upward trend in hospitalizations over the past week, we will be not be progressing to Step 3 this week.

As a result, it’s necessary for Tucker Hockey to be proactive and work on different curriculum scenarios for our 3 on 3 programs scheduled to start up on Saturday April 10th.

We are doing what we can and what is under our control within the current restrictions and minimal guidance with the next steps forward so we kindly ask for your patience as we sort things out.

Proposed On Ice Curriculum’s

With minimal guidance being provided in regards to restrictions, we have thoughtfully put together 3 potential plans for our 3 on 3 Spring program curriculum’s.

Plan 1 – Best Case Scenario:

  • 16 Sessions: April 10th to the first week of June – Set-up as per description on website https://staging.tuckerhockey.com/services/3-on-3/:
    • Curriculum consists of: 10 minute – goalie warmup, 20 minutes – skill development rotate 3 stations and finish with 30 minute – high tempo 3 on 3 full ice scrimmage with 45 second shifts.

Note:

  • Step 3 needs to occur the week of April 6th for this plan to go forward.
  • Currently, we are limited to 7 skaters and 1 goalie per team under the Step 2 rules which prevent hockey playing but fortunately at least allows hockey development.

Plan 2 – Probable Case Scenario:

  • First 6 Sessions: Month of April – Premium Semi Private Development Only Sessions
    • Curriculum consists of: 10 minute – goalie warmup, 50 minutes – skill development half ice with NO high tempo 3 on 3 full ice scrimmage with 45 second shifts.
  • Next 2 Sessions: Month of May – Transition to 3 on 3 Full Ice Play
    • Curriculum consists of: 10 minute – goalie warmup, 20 minutes – skill development rotate 3 stations and finish with 30 minute – high tempo 3 on 3 full ice scrimmage with 45 second shifts.
  • Last 8 Sessions: Months of May and June – Focus on 3 on 3 Game Play
    • Curriculum consists of: 10 minute – goalie warmup, 50 minutes – high tempo 3 on 3 full ice scrimmage with 45 second shifts.

Note:

  • This plan is achievable if Step 3 is implemented sometime in April. It will allow us to add 3 on 3 game play to the program in May & June sessions.
  • With this plan there will be approximately the same amount of time allocated to hockey development and full ice 3 on 3 play as originally advertised.
  • All development sessions will be age and skill appropriate with an emphasize on the technical skills of skating, puck control, passing and shooting.
  • Excellent player to on ice instructor ratio 4 to 1 or better.

Plan 3 – Worst Case Scenario:

  • 16 Sessions: April 10th to the first week of June – Premium Semi Private Development Only Sessions
    • Curriculum consists of: 10 minute – goalie warmup, 50 minutes – skill development  half ice with NO high tempo 3 on 3 full ice scrimmage with 45 second shifts.

Note:

  • This plan is the worst-case scenario and will occur only if Step 3 is delayed until late May or early June and does not allow us to get back to our originally advertised 3 on 3 play setup.
  • All development sessions will be age and skill level appropriate with emphasize on the technical skills of skating, puck control, passing and shooting.
  • Excellent player to on ice instructor ratio of 4 to 1 or better.
