Winter 2022 Minor Hockey

Danny Cammack Memorial Award Recipient:

Claire Czerwony

Published March 24, 2022

This award was created in memory of Danny Cammack.

Danny Cammack had many of the passions of a typical 13-year-old, but none was greater than hockey. What Danny lacked in size, he more than made up for with smooth powerful strides, soft hands and an uncanny puck sense.

that came with being a member of a hockey team. Perhaps this is why he was such a good team player. Dan loved to win but it was not the “Be all, end all”. He always kept things in perspective. Doing his best and having fun on the ice was what Danny was all about!

Since 2004, this Tucker Hockey Award has been issued quarterly each year to worthy program participants.

Coach Rex selected Claire Czerwony as the winter 2022 Minor Hockey – Danny Cammack Memorial Award Recipient. Congratulations Claire!

About Claire:

  • Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi, my name is Claire and before I joined hockey I wanted to be a figure skater. One night after my skating class ended I was watching my little brother finishing up his hockey introduction course and as I watched him skate across the ice I knew it. I no longer wanted to be a figure skater; I wanted to be a hockey player. Four years later here I am still loving this amazing game.

  • What do you like about the sport of hockey?

I love the sport of hockey for so many reasons. I love the cooperation and teamwork required, getting ready before the game with butterflies in my stomach, that indescribable feeling you get when you’re on a breakaway racing across the ice and most of all I love all of the great people that you meet who share the same interests and passion as you.

  • What has been the most enjoyable part of the Tucker Hockey experience for you?

I really liked how encouraging the coaches were and they really pushed me to my limits and made sure that I succeeded and progressed throughout the course. One thing Coach Rex told me that really stuck, and something I remind myself of everyday, he said that ‘girls got grit’ and that is something I play by.

  • How has hockey influenced or positively affected your life?

Hockey is a great outlet for me to relieve stress, once you are on the ice everything else fades away. It’s also been a great opportunity to make new friends outside of school. It has helped me connect with others and definitely bring me closer to my brother and my friends. It has also helped me excel in other activities including school, it has taught me to persevere just like in hockey you can always make a comeback in the 3d period. It has transformed my life and made me feel healthier and better about myself.

Editor’s Note:

Claire, you have a great attitude! Keep enjoying the wonderful sport of hockey and having fun. Hockey teaches many life skills; keep the desire to learn and get better. See you at the rink later this year! Keep working on the “girl power” on and off the ice! Take care. Best wishes!
