2025 Q2

Minor Hockey

Danny Cammack

Memorial Award

Recipient:

Blake McGinnis

Published June 25, 2025

This award was created in memory of Danny Cammack.

Danny Cammack had many of the passions of a typical 13-year-old, but none was greater than hockey.

What Danny lacked in size, he more than made up for with smooth powerful strides, soft hands and an uncanny puck sense.

As much as he loved the game, he loved the camaraderie that came with being a member of a hockey team. Perhaps this is why he was such a good team player. Dan loved to win but it was not the “Be all, end all”. He always kept things in perspective. Doing his best and having fun on the ice was what Danny was all about!

Since 2004, this Tucker Hockey Award has been issued quarterly each year to worthy program participants.

Coach Rex selects Blake McGinnis as the 2025 Q2 Minor Hockey – Danny Cammack Memorial Award Recipient.

Congratulations Blake!

About Blake:

  • Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Blake. I’m 13 and in Grade 8 at St. James School in North Glenmore. I’m not the kind of person who likes staying inside – I’d way rather be out doing stuff. In the summer, I usually ride my bike around to my friends’ houses to see who’s around to hang out. We bike, play basketball, shoot pucks, and just have fun. I do like video games too, but being outside is more my thing. In the winter, if I’m not at the rink, I’m usually at an ODR, my favourite this year was Lakeview Rink. I’ve been playing hockey since I was 5, and I really like meeting new people and being social.

I am Colorado Avalanche fan and Edmonton Oilers Fan.

  • What do you like about the sport of hockey?

What I like about hockey? Honestly, it’s just really fun! There’s a lot I enjoy about it, like having something to do in the winter, getting to hang out with my teammates and going to out of town tournaments. I like going to the rink, the whole atmosphere is awesome. It’s cool meeting new teammates every year and also playing with some of the same guys again. I like getting to know everyone, like where they’re from and stuff like that. I also get to play with my Dad on his hockey team for father and son skate.

  • When and how did you initially get involved with Tucker Hockey?

I first heard about Tucker Hockey from one of my friends who said it was a really fun program and great for improving skating and stickhandling. I decided to try it out, and I’m glad I did. The drills are awesome and really help push you to get better every time.

The best part of Tucker Hockey for me has been the coaches. They’re kind and always give tips to help you improve. Plus, after practice, Mom or Dad usually take me to Peter’s Drive-In since it’s close to the rink for a hotdog and a shake!!

  • How has hockey influenced or positively affected your life?

Hockey has been a big part of my life since I was 5. Every year I’ve made new friends on different teams, so now I’ve got a lot of people I can hang out with even outside of hockey. It definitely makes the long winters more fun and easier to get through. It has taught me to never quit, it’s not over until it’s over!

Editor’s Note:

Blake, congratulations on being the recipient of our Q2 Danny Cammack Memorial Award!

Glad to hear you have enjoyed our Tucker Hockey On Ice Programs.

Love your enthusiasm and zeal for the game Blake!

Yes, skating is the most important hockey skill.

If you wish to be a good hockey player keep working on your skating skills.

Also, remember a good hockey player is a good athlete – someone who plays other sports as well.

Keep enjoying your outdoor activities too.

See you at the rink again this Summer!

Take Care. Best Wishes.

~Coach Rex

PS Enjoy the Stanley Cup playoffs! It’s the Oilers year!
