2024 Q3 Adult Hockey
Bradley Mersereau
Memorial Award Recipient:
Mayuko Kaneda
Published: September 30, 2024
This award is named the “Brad Memorial”. It is in memory of Bradley Mersereau, who was an avid participant in Tucker Hockey Adult Programs. Brad never represented himself as a great skater, or, for that matter, a good hockey player. He just loved getting out and being active. He always found a healthy balance between family, work and the enjoyment of hockey. He was a “true friend” and “hockey enthusiast”.

Mayuko Kaneda
About Mayuko:
- What do you like about the sport of hockey?
I started my skating and hockey on Lake Louise with a pair of used skates and an old wooden hockey stick that a friend gave to me. The freedom to move so quickly on the ice and chasing the puck was wonderful. All this while surrounded by nature’s beauty. An unbelievable experience.

- When and how did you initially get involved with Tucker Hockey?
Years later after having moved to Calgary I still skated occasionally but then I was introduced to hockey. Immediately I was hooked on hockey. It is much fun and it is magical release from the reality of the world. Once I’m at the rink everything else is forgotten. I go out and I’m challenged physically and mentally to be the best I can be.
I wanted to get better and learn the fundamentals of skating and hockey. I had heard of Tucker Hockey from other people at my hockey or from my Stick and Puck sessions. I saw lots of Tucker Hockey jerseys as well. I signed up and was so happy that I did. I learned so much from Coach Rex, Coach Jim and all the rest. My lessons were always fun and challenging, just what I was looking for.
- How has hockey influenced or positively affected your life?
My hockey experiences have been so good for me. I have met so many amazing people and all of us have at least one thing in common, we love hockey. I have also worked hard to improve, I play shinny hockey regularly, I go to Stick and Puck routinely to practice and improve. Hockey has become part of my life and I’m grateful to the Tucker Hockey Team for starting me off on the right foot with an extremely positive introduction to hockey.

Congratulations Mayuko on being selected as the recipient of this award!
