A Special Visitor from New Zealand

Tucker Hockey had a very special guest player join us during the Fall 2023 Hockey Development Season.
Marcus travelled all the way from New Zealand to join us for some “Canadian” hockey training!

Read below for more on Marcus:
- Involvement with Tucker Hockey
My involvement with Tucker Hockey started when we started planning our family holiday to Canada to see family there. Doing the Tucker Hockey training camp began as a result of my passion for ice hockey. I wanted to elevate my skills, and learn what I could in Canada, even if it meant I had to go to school here through my NZ summer holidays!!
- Hockey’s Positive Influence on My Life
Hockey isn’t just a sport for me. The sport has instilled in me a sense of discipline, resilience, and the importance of teamwork. It’s not all about the victories and defeats, it’s the strong friendships forged on the ice that make hockey an integral part of my life. Hockey has had a pretty big impact on my life. It is the only sport that can be played in the small town I live in. I have been able to meet many great people travelling the country and now the world.
- Differences in Hockey Training between New Zealand and Canada
The main differences between hockey training in my small town in New Zealand and the hockey in Canada is the quality of coaching and facilities. In New Zealand our season only lasts for 6 months, and in my hometown, we only have ice for about 4 months to practise on! In Canada you could play hockey all year around if you wanted! I have also been able to watch some NHL games in person which is pretty cool to be able to watch games at the highest level of the sport you have been playing all your life.
We appreciate that Marcus and his family trusted Tucker Hockey with Marcus’s hockey development while visiting Calgary. It was a pleasure to have Marcus out!

Note from Marcus’s Mom Penny:
I just wanted to take the time to extend a very big and sincere thankyou for your support of Marcus during his recent visit to Canada. He learnt a lot and really appreciated the opportunity to join your sessions. Marcus has returned home very enthusiastic about the season ahead.
Many thanks and warm regards,
Penny
Editor’s Note:
Marcus, I am very glad you enjoyed, when visiting Calgary, the “Tucker Hockey Experience & Way”.
It was a pleasure for myself and other Tucker Hockey Instructors to work with you!
You are a very hard working and coachable young man.
Keep loving the game and developing your skills – especially skating.
Skating is the most important hockey skill.
Good luck with your hockey. Keep the passion! Good things well happen.
Marcus, maybe we will see you again!!
Best wishes. Take Care.
