2024 Q4 Adult Hockey

Bradley Mersereau

Memorial Award Recipient:

Jody Roberts

Published: December 20, 2024

This award is named the “Brad Memorial”. It is in memory of Bradley Mersereau, who was an avid participant in Tucker Hockey Adult Programs. Brad never represented himself as a great skater, or, for that matter, a good hockey player. He just loved getting out and being active. He always found a healthy balance between family, work and the enjoyment of hockey. He was a “true friend” and “hockey enthusiast”.

About Jody:

  • What do you like about the sport of hockey?

I love many sports but hockey by far is the most exciting sport to play and watch! The speed at which the game is played and executed just shows how these athletes are the most talented of any sport out there.

  • When and how did you initially get involved with Tucker Hockey?

It was about 9 years ago when my son Luke was 7 years old. I never pushed the game on him, I was waiting for him to show the desire, and when he did, I started looking into additional development for him and found Tucker Hockey. At that same time, I was starting to play pick-up hockey once a week after an 18-year exodus of being off the ice. I quickly realized I wasn’t 17 anymore and my skating and physical conditioning were challenged! My hunger to play the game was reinvigorated and Tucker Hockey ran adult programs…perfect!

There was a point where I was on the ice 2-3 times a week all through the year with Tucker programs. I did the Adult Fundamentals (101 back in the day) that many times! Jimmy would say to the new participants at the beginning of the program during introductions “…. we might allow him to move on after this one.” 🙂

  • How has hockey influenced or positively affected your life?

Definitely the networking. Between men’s rec, Tucker hockey, or the parent on Luke’s teams over the years, I have met a lot of great people, had some great interactions and ton of good laughs!

Other things in life that Jody loves. His kids, outdoors, and water!

Congratulations Jody on being selected as the recipient of this award!

Editor’s Note:

Both fellow Newfoundlander Jody and his son Luke have been loyal participants in our year-round development hockey programs.

Jody has enrolled in numerous adult recreational programs – especially our Friday Noon Adult Advanced Technical and Tactical Programs.

Luke has participated in many of our minor skills development programs – including our customized 1 on 1, Spring 3 on 3, defenseman and elite power skating programs etc. Luke started at a very early age, and it’s been very rewarding to witness his personal growth and development on and off the ice over the past decade.

Besides participating in our individual programs, Jody and Luke have skated together in our adult programs as a Father and Son combo, which indeed was a special hockey moment on the ice! Bottom line, they are good people and love their hockey!

Gentlemen, thank you for your loyal support to Tucker Hockey over the years.

It has been a pleasure coaching you. Keep enjoying your hockey and cheering for the Leafs Jody! Keep the faith!

See you at the rink again soon.

Best wishes.

Take Care.
