2024 Q3 Minor Hockey

Danny Cammack Memorial

Award Recipient:

Ben Moriarity

Published September 30, 2024

This award was created in memory of Danny Cammack.

Danny Cammack had many of the passions of a typical 13-year-old, but none was greater than hockey.

What Danny lacked in size, he more than made up for with smooth powerful strides, soft hands and an uncanny puck sense.

As much as he loved the game, he loved the camaraderie that came with being a member of a hockey team. Perhaps this is why he was such a good team player. Dan loved to win but it was not the “Be all, end all”. He always kept things in perspective. Doing his best and having fun on the ice was what Danny was all about!

Since 2004, this Tucker Hockey Award has been issued quarterly each year to worthy program participants.

Coach Rex selects Ben Moriarity as the 2024 Q3 Minor Hockey – Danny Cammack Memorial Award Recipient.

Congratulations Ben!

About Ben:

  • Tell us a little about yourself.

I started playing hockey when I was 5 years old when I signed up for Timbits.  I couldn’t skate for my first “evaluation” and my dad signed me up for skating lessons with Rex Tucker.  I played house league until U13 and then moved to community hockey where I now play U15 with Glenlake Hawks.

  • What do you like about the sport of hockey?

I like scoring goals and having fun with teammates, making memories and new friends along the way!

  • When and how did you initially get involved with Tucker Hockey?

When I was 5 years old, my dad signed my sister and I up for skating lessons with Rex Tucker so we could learn to skate.  My dad had taken Introduction to Hockey for Adults and liked the combination of fun and learning

  • What has been the most enjoyable part of the Tucker Hockey experience for you?

I loved the jail game when we were learning to skate.  I enjoyed learning new skills and using them in games

  • How has hockey influenced or positively affected your life?

Hockey has allowed me to be more active, play the game that I love.  My dad and sister play as well, so I really like going to the ODR and spending time with them.  I also really like going on tournaments with my team and spending time with my team and having fun with them.

Editor’s Note:

Congratulations Ben on receiving the Danny Cammack Memorial Award!

Wow, U15 now… it only seems like a few years ago that I coached you and your older sister to learn to skate. Great to see you at the rink this past Summer. You are growing up fast!

Glad you had fun and good memories from the Tucker Hockey 1 on 1 “Right Start” Program. Yes, the Moriarity’s have been loyal participants in Tucker Hockey Programs. It all started with your Dad, Len who participated more than 15 years ago in our early morning Adult Fundamentals Recreational Program! It’s great to know you and your sister are doing well and still enjoying hockey.

Good luck this season to you both! Keep enjoying the ODR with your family as well!

Take Care.

~ Coach Rex

PS – Remember skating is the most important hockey skill. Keep getting those outside edges stronger!
