2023 Q3 Adult Hockey

Bradley Mersereau Memorial Award Recipient:

David Crosby

Published: September 28, 2023

This award is named the “Brad Memorial”. It is in memory of Bradley Mersereau, who was an avid participant in Tucker Hockey Adult Programs. Brad never represented himself as a great skater, or, for that matter, a good hockey player. He just loved getting out and being active. He always found a healthy balance between family, work and the enjoyment of hockey. He was a “true friend” and “hockey enthusiast”.

More about David:

  • What do you like about the sport of hockey?

Hockey is a sport that fully engages the senses and the mind, and even when I’m tired or sore, I can’t help but feel exhilarated when I’m unlacing my skates at the end. Skating on a cold moonlit night and slinging pucks at the net until my limbs feel like they’ll fall off is one of my favourite winter activities.

  • When and how did you initially get involved with Tucker Hockey?

I had wanted to play hockey since I was a little kid, but circumstances never worked out. I skated on frozen ponds with dull blades over the years, but after getting inspiration watching the Calgary Inferno play and chatting with my hockey-playing friends over the pandemic I decided to carve out whatever time I could to finally play hockey for real.

  • How has hockey influenced or positively affected your life?

I can finally enjoy a good game of shinny with my hockey-playing friends, and I’ve made new friends along the way as well. I bike year-round, but it’s still great to get the blood pumping playing hockey during the winter months now. It’s also been fantastic getting past a long-time plateau in my ability to skate and play, knowing that good instruction can grow you far past whatever skills you thought you’re stuck with.

Editor’s Note:

David, we are very pleased that you enjoyed the Tucker Hockey Way and experience on the ice. Good fundamentals are the key. Skating, puck control, passing and shooting. Yes, quality on ice instruction can help you take your game to another level! Keep enjoying the game and having fun with your hockey playing friends! See you on the ice soon!

Best wishes!
